Why Carbon Removal?
To have a shot at a better future, we need to both radically reduce emissions and remove CO2.
By 2050, we will need to remove between 5-10 billion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year (IPCC 2023). Oceanic Enhanced Weathering is the simplest and most scalable method we have to reach this goal and course correct our current climate trajectory.
02
Why OEW?
Weathering naturally removes 1GT of carbon dioxide per year.
OEW is a part of the geologic carbon cycle. We accelerate this cycle by grinding rocks into sand, adding the sand to the ocean, and monitoring the process to verify the resulting carbon removal.
03
Why MRV?
MRV is key for high quality carbon removal.
Monitoring, reporting, and verification is one of the key challenges holding back deployment
of ocean alkalinity enhancement carbon removal methods. Our novel tracer-based approach to MRV allows for environmental monitoring and the
robust quantification of the amount of CDR performed without significant increases to the cost or complexity of the process.
